DNT's offer

The cabin today

Today, DNT has both the cabins at Fanaråken's disposal, and it can be needed when one knows that there can sometimes be close to 110 overnight guests at Fanaråken. The old meteorologist's cabin was not used as sleeping quarters, while hovudhytta was mainly used for food service, as a refreshment, as well as reception for day tourists.

Although it can be blissful if the space and the 34 beds are not enough for all the guests, I can promise that you will always have a mattress, duvet and a place on the floor. The same with the food. You may not get a seat on the first or second table setting, but you will get food. For breakfast I serve freshly baked bread left over!!

Is the name still missing?

There is not so little dissent today about the correct spelling for the mountain. One can see examples both on maps and in other literature that both ein and to -n'ar are useful when one is writing Fanaråken/Fannaråken. One or two -n's, the name is most likely from "Fonna som ryk", Wergeland used in his poem Spanjolen:

Hurry up, hurry up
Fly like a hind
See where it laughs behind Fanarauktind

Cold facts

The cabin is open during the summer season from the end of June to the beginning of September. Based on measurements made from 1926 to 1978, I can determine that the average temperature in July and August is plus 2.6 and 2.0 degrees Celsius respectively. The rest of the year, the average temperature is negative.

What meteorologists call good days there must be a total of 60 days of the year and 11 in the two summer months at Fannaråken. No is probably the way most people perceive it better than this, but it is an inevitable fact that I have soft shutters on Fannaråken.

That the wind could be strong can probably be attested to by the meteorologists who experienced such strong wind strength that they could not measure him with the instruments they had. Instrumenta deira turned berre into a double hurricane!
