How to get to Bjørnhollia

Bjørnhollia is beautifully located in Rondane and you can get here either on foot or on skis. There is no road to the cabin.

Summer time

By car

To Straumbu. From Straumbu (parking lot) it is approx. 7 km on a well-marked path (approx. 2 hours) into Bjørnhollia. Private cars can also be parked at Gammelgarden. From here there is a transport road on to the cabin, approx. 8 km.

By train

To Koppang/Atna on the Røros Line and on by bus to Straumbu or train to Ringebu on the Dovre Line and on by bus to Straumbu (bus route from Ringebu Berre during the ordinary school holidays).

Winter

From the parking lot at Furulund it is approx. 8 km on skis after a twig ski trail:

From Oslo by private car

Two options

  1. Bunk to Lillehammer-Ringebu, and take off over to Venabygdsfjellet. Over Venabygdsfjellet and down to Enden, further towards Folldal. Past Atnasjø café, park your car in a small parking lot just past Nesset, (there is a sign, p- Bjørnhollia, close to the driveway to Blåfjellia). About two hours' drive from Lillehammer.
NB! Venabygdsfjellet is quickly closed due to winter conditions, call 175 to check the conditions.
  2. From Oslo: Up to Elverum, further through Østerdalen, past Koppang and Atna. From Atna towards Atndalen/Folldal, past Atnasjø café, and park at Furulund, just past Nesset farm.

From Trondheim - by private car or public transport

  1. Bunk down to Hjerkinn-Folldal, and further Atndalen towards Ringebu. Past Straumbu parking lot, and to Furulund.
  2. Public transport: Train to Koppang, bus on to Furulund or train to Hjerkinn, bus on to Folldal, and Furulund.

The trail starts from the parking lot, down through the farmyard at Furulund farm, further over Atnsjøen, and up through the forest hillside to Bjørnhollia.

Public transport over Venabygdsfjellet

NB: There is no scheduled bus over Venabygdsfjellet in winter.

Public transport during the Easter holidays

Starting point in Mysuseter

Public transport in Østerdalen at Easter presents problems, as the bus company cancels many of its routes at Easter.

A good alternative is to start in Mysuseter (train to Otta, bus to Mysuseter). From Mysuseter via Rondvassbu to Bjørnhollia, or directly to Bjørnhollia (direct trip about five hours).
