Day Trips from Aurlandsdalen Turisthytte
With the cabin as a starting point, you can go on a number of nice day trips in the area - everything from easy, child-friendly hikes to demanding summit hikes.
Historical hiking route down the Aurlandsdalen valley
The beautiful and fabled Aurlandsdalen valley stretches from Vassbygdi in Aurland to Geiteryggen, at the watershed towards Hallingdal. The road that runs through the valley, from Hol to Aurland, is one of the many traffic routes between Eastern and Western Norway.
Langedalen
Langedalen is located to the north, north/east from Østerbø. You can go on a round trip via Herdølestølen and back to Østerbø or go into the entire valley to Fossane. The round trip takes about 1.5 hours and the return trip to Fossane about 4 hours.
Børefjellet
A great hike up to Børefjellet (1357 masl) via Joanosi. The hike is signposted from Viki towards Joanosi and it starts 100 meters after the bridge over Langedøla, which is located on the main trail down the Aurlandsdalen valley at Østerbø.
Pretzel
Kringla is located to the south from Østerbø. One starts and ends the trip from the Tourist Cabin. The first part goes in the path towards Vassbygdi and at the south end of Aurdalsvatnet you go left over a small suspension bridge, through the cabin field and down along the county road towards the Nesbø tunnel. Before the tunnel, there is a gravel road down to the right and there is a sign for Kringla after 30 meters. The trip takes about 2-3 hours round trip.
Berdalen - Kringledalen
The trip starts in Berdalen between the Nesbø and Berdal tunnels. The trail starts steeply up from Fylkesvegen, but after a few meters of altitude you see Berdalstølene and the valley unfolds ahead. When you reach the end of Berdalen, you enter the path towards Hallingsskeid. Here you go north and follow the T-marked path down into Kringlebotn and further down Kringledalen. When you get to Kringla, you see Østerbø and the trip ends at the Tourist Cabin. To get to the starting point, you can either drive a car and park between the tunnels or take a bus. The trip takes about 4-5 hours.
